News and Notes

Everyone needs a summer break :)

Hello friends,

We hope that you all doing well and that you are looking ahead to a peaceful, joyful, adventure-filled, lovely summer.

Here at Learning Futures, work commitments and holiday plans have led us to conclude that we will need to skip our June editions. We will be back in early July with our next issue, in which we will explore three possible futures described in IFTF’s Lighting Up the Future for Children report. Each of these forecasts explores how communities and institutions might respond to acute and immediate needs of children and families.

While we are away, we invite you to check out a few of our favorite writers about foresight, the future of learning, and the forces changing the world around us.

  • New World, Same Humans by David Mattin

    • a newsletter on trends, technology, and society; and a community for those on a mission to build a better shared future

  • The Future Normal by Henry Coutinho-Mason and Rohit Bhargava

    • explores emerging technologies and trends that might appear niche or fantastical today, but will become part of our future normal

  • One Useful Thing by Ethan Mollick

    • trying to understand the implications of AI for work, education, and life

  • Letters from the Future (of Learning) by Sam Chaltain

    • shares stories of people, schools and communities whose work can inspire and orient us to our rapidly changing world — and how to make it better

  • Foresight in the Present by Maree Conway

    • about foresight, the neurological and cognitive capacity we have to imagine our futures in the present

We find all of these these authors to be thought-provoking and richly informative, and hope that you enjoy learning from them as much as we do.

Have a wonderful month. See you in July!
